We try to understand the “whys” behind each request or comment to be sure that so that we know if we’re solving the actual problem or and not just treating a symptom.

THE ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN PROCESS
You may already have an idea in your head. Perhaps you even have a napkin sketch or concept you’ve started to flush out. Next step – get an architect involved so you can get building… right?
In reality, the architectural design process is not quite as straightforward as that.
It’s a circular process with many rounds of edits and design revisions. Because there are so many people involved in a build, city permitting, building codes, budgets, timelines, and many other factors can come into play and may require changes to the original design. Often these factors aren’t apparent at the beginning or may change at some point during the design and building process. You may change your mind too as you start to see your original requests take shape. It’s all part of the process.
Below is a rough outline of what to expect when you’re working with a reputable architect:
1. INITIAL CONCEPT
CONCEPT MEETING +
Discuss wants and needs with the client. Set initial goals.
FEASIBILITY STUDY +
Preliminary diagrammatic site review to determine feasibility of the intended use.
RESEARCH +
Code studies and taking applicable city zoning into account.
CONCEPT DESIGN +
Conceptual or schematic design, site & building concept planning.
2. PLANNING STAGE
DETAILED LAYOUT PLAN +
Design development phase pulls schematic elements and adds in detail.
REVIEW & EDIT +
Repeat Steps 1-5 as many times as needed.
BUDGETING & TIMELINES +
Once the design is solidified we can generate cost estimates for the architectural and engineering consultants to generate Permit ready construction drawings.
3. DESIGN EXECUTION
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT DRAWINGS +
This is when you finally get to see a real, pretty 3D building that we can give to an engineer.
CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS +
While the engineers are doing their part, we’re working on construction drawings down to the finest level of detail.
PERMITTING PROCESS +
Submit drawings & specs to the local jurisdiction for review and approval.
BREAK GROUND! +
After permitting and approval of plans, the build begins.
